<RULE_TITLE>Control of Non-Volatile Particulate Matter (nvPM) From Aircraft Engines: Emission Standards and Test Procedures </RULE_TITLE>
        <ABSTRACT>

This rulemaking would adopt the necessary regulations for the FAA to implement a standard set by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) in the United States. Non-volatile particulate matter (nvPM) emissions from aircraft gas turbine engines are known to adversely impact both health and climate. The new nvPM standard for aircraft gas turbine engines is an important development that will lead to an overall reduction of the nvPM emissions and associated impacts. This new standard is a critical milestone that contributes to the United States' strategic objective to minimize the adverse environmental effects of civil aviation activities. The EPA is in the process of adopting the standard into its regulations in accordance with the Clean Air Act (CAA). EPA is expected to have a final rule before the end of this calendar year. Under the CAA, the FAA has the responsibility to implement the standard at the time of aircraft engine certification.
